THE FALLEN HEIR
The Fallen heir ~ABHI SHARMA CHAPTER 3 :SHADOWS AND SPARKS Back in the capital, Kaelus was summoned home. His master received a scroll sealed with royal wax — the King had asked to see his son. Permission was granted for leave, and soldiers escorted Kaelus back to the palace. He had joined the military when he was ten, shedding his royal identity behind the cold iron gates of the training grounds. Here, rank was earned, not inherited. He was treated like any other soldier. Over the years, he became stronger — not just in body, but in discipline, in silence, in the hard-earned respect of equals. But his heart still remembered the girl. --- Seraphina attempted escape. Twice. The first time, the in-charge merely shouted. The second, she was locked in a dark cell for hours. The third time… she ran fast, almost unseen but not fast enough. The officer struck her. A sharp slap across the face. Seraphina fell to the ground, her palm scraping against a rock. Blood trickled. Her cheek burned red. But she didn't cry. She didn’t scream. Her mind whispered only one sentence: "I have to try again." The Prince reached the palace at dusk. His father greeted him in the royal courtyard. “You’ve grown, son,” the King said with a measured smile. “Let’s see how much. Tonight, you’ll duel before the high court. Prepare yourself.” Kaelus bowed. “As you wish.” He walked toward the Queen’s chambers — his stepmother. She looked at him from a distance and left before he even arrived. He didn’t care. There was no love lost there. Still, he bowed out of habit and respect. On his way to his own chambers, he found his younger brother, Lucien, drunk and unconscious in the hallway. Only 17, Lucien was far too young for this decay. Kaelus gently lifted him, fixed his posture, and placed a soft pillow under his head. He sighed. Seraphina’s fourth attempt worked. No one saw her. The guards were distracted. The gates slightly ajar. She ran, heart pounding. Through thorny bushes, through dense trees — until she reached the outer gardens of the royal grounds. And there — fate waited. She collided into someone solid. It was Kaelus. Her breath caught. “You… You’re here?, Are you linked with the royals?" “You’re… part of the army.....?” He said nothing. He didn’t correct her. He wouldn’t tell her the truth — that he was a prince. Not now. Hope, once broken, is hard to rebuild. So he fed her the lie she already believed. “No, I'm not but my father is in ." Silence prevailed which broken by kaelus "I didn’t get to ask your name last time,” he said, steadying her. “What is it?” “Seraphina,” she whispered. “And yours?” “Kaelus.” " What are you thinking?" "So, you are linked with royal",she asked. He replied,"A kind of but don't think that I will not help you in escaping. I will help you no matter what it costs." Their conversation was cut short by a royal horn in the distance. The King was arriving. Kaelus pressed her shoulder urgently. “Go back. Right now. Hide. Tell me where you came from. I’ll meet you there tonight.” She hesitated, nodded once, and slipped away. He watched her disappear into the shadows — and tightened his grip on his sword.
